Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) will stop covering certain weight-loss drugs, such as Wegovy and Saxenda, due to rising costs. Starting October 1, members must try lifestyle changes for at least six months before being approved for these drugs. Additionally, prior authorization periods for current users will be shortened. BCBSM aims to ensure drugs are used cost-effectively and encourages lifestyle modifications over long-term drug use. This move addresses the high cost and rapid increase in usage of these medications.
